Forget Apget... it would instantly wreck my sendmail config.
I would do a cpan install, but cpan seems to be broken somewhere.
BTW - There IS something that can be done about spam and email. I'm increasingly sure email needs to be reconsidered in it's current setup.
The prootocol needs to be simplified and and changed to be more trackable and serious mail fraud and wire laws need to be extended to email.
I'm getting some 40 emails a day trafficing in illegal narcotics. We are NOT going to win the spam wars with spamassasin or any other tool because the forces at work generating spam are foriegn governments, multination corperations and more.
It's inevitably sliding email into complete disarray, making it increasingly non-usable.
If we are serious about finally doing something about this, the first step is to realize that government regulation is going to have to be the first step. Don Marti is wrong on this particular subject.
In addition, this idea that we have to attack the senders and not hold the relay services accountable is ALSO WRONG. I had a customer who, before I got to their system, had an insecure version of Netscape Mail running which was relaying some 100,000,000 spam a month until I finally shut it down. And he suffered ZERO economic implications by this lapse in basic fundemental security.
The FIRST change needed to be made to email is a COST or TOLL BRIDGE which is respected by every mail server. So I would be able to easily set up a paypal or other banking account and then setup my mail server to change every incoming mail $0.01, expect for my white list to be billed to the relay and the sender.
Now send 10,000,000 email out and see what happens. They want to send me god damn spam on porn, they can pay me or eat shit.
