|
Here are the minutes that I have. Feel free to let me know if I've missed anything.
NYLXS meeting - March 10, 2004
Present: Adam Kosmin, Michael Richardson, Steve Milo, Rob Marino, Evan Inkler, Peter Seigel, Joanne Crypt
******************************************************************** Educational Committee
Rob is scheduling a meeting to see about space sometime next week. A tentative opportunity exists to obtain space at 50 Broad Street in downtown Manhattan. If acquired, this space will be considered for classes and Freedom-IT.
Rob will be announcing the next Educational Committee meeting tonight.
******************************************************************** FSCC
Evan will be announcing the next FSCC meeting shortly.
Evan will contact SuSE in order to obtain additional media for the upcoming classes.
******************************************************************** Freedom-IT
Adam will contact LJ about running an ad on Freedom-IT once he receives a rough draft.
At this time, it is not clear how NYLXS will choose to interact with Orgcom. As Adam suggested earlier on the mailing list, this matter should be voted on at the next board meeting once those who have a strong opinion have an opportunity to state their case.
Rob may have a lead on space (see above).
******************************************************************** WindowsRefund.net
Adam informed the group of a legal case that is currently pending review by his lawyer and has brought the issue of funding up for discussion. It was mentioned that NYLXS would not be able to contribute to this fund but suggested that personal contributions would be another matter. Ruben has donated $200 to the cause.
******************************************************************** Software Freedom Day (softwarefreedomday.org)
Evan brought the issue of SFD to the attention of the group. No plans have been made.

Other...
Joanne and Adam have made tentative plans to join forces on March 11th to investigate the city's contracts with Microsoft Corporation.
A huge debate ensued over the merits of network-based GNU/Linux installations vs. those performed via cds. No penguins were hurt in the scuffle.
Adam thought about it and agreed with himself.
Ruben confessed that he can't stand "those Debian people".
Adam openly confessed that he just "doesn't understand the fascination

"Yes, Your Honor. Now, where we are so far, in at least my line of reasoning, is I want to walk the Court through enough of our complaint to help the Court understand that IBM clearly did contribute a lot of the Unix-related information into Linux. We just don't know what it is."
