Just a brain dump here:
Logo -> Tux dressed up as Statue of Liberty
PROS - cute penguin - makes a connection with New York - makes a connection with concept of liberty
CONS - maybe too aligned with Linux for some free software projects - possibly done before? I have a sneaking suspicion I've seen it before
Names:
New York Linux Day(s) - a classic. Actually why not New York LinuxTag?
Tech Freedom Expo NY - a bit unwieldy but emphasizes the core themes
Linux Universe - a bit broader than linux world :-) Maybe in use already
.ORGy - My personal favorite. but a little risque and perhaps not broad enough
man hattan(1) - too obscure and geeky even for me :-) on the bright side, the number can increment each year!
Discuss!
