Brian,
I don't need to "take another shot" as you put it. I know your motives and I have no problem exposing them to the members of this community. Your actions speak louder than your words and I have no problem being the one who will hold you accountable for using this list as a software distribution channel.
And I for one, could care less about what your shiny Windows product can do when it behaves nicely. Spare me the bells, spare me the whistles, and give me software that I can use, modify, redistribute, and examine to my heart's content. You may use Linux as you say, but you are not a Linux user because I seriously doubt your ability to grasp the concept of freedom being more important than functionality.
No one (especially not I) is asking you to stop helping people on this list. If you re-read my posts, you will notice that I have repeatedly asked you to stop using it as a tool to push your products onto schools. But then again, your "slush fund, get-it-into-their-hands-anyway possible" approach confirms my suspicions that you don't believe these people would buy your product to begin with. If you REALLY thought that the products offered such tremendous value, you'd have some confidence in the fact that they would be purchased. Instead, I suspect that the end of each month sees you submitting an excel spreadsheet to your boss indicating how many schools you've managed to infect (Ok, perhaps some strong language on my part, but I needed to make a point).
As far as you being here before me and all that, how do you think I got here? News has a way of spreading pretty fast on this here Internet thing-a-ma-bob and yes Brian, word has gotten out about you. There are quite a few people on this list who are as sick and tired as I am of your blatant attempt to capitalize, but who choose to say nothing. I suspect that they have (wisely) decided not to add fuel to the fire at this point because it is simply unnecessary. I am calling this for what it is and have brought it to the attention of the group. Sure, the group has some thinking to do and may decide to support you (we both know that these people tend to be a bit short sighted and are mostly concerned with serving their own selfish agendas). If that camp appears to outnumber those of us who believe that educational facilities should be more than breeding grounds for the your next generation of market share, then so be it. I suppose if that happens, I'll be asked to leave or be banned. However, it would be foolish of you to think that your attempts to exploit this list will go unnoticed in the event that I take leave.
In the mean time, I will continue to do what I've always done on this list; contribute my experience where appropriate, learn from others, and call you out when needed. How about you stop giving me a reason to?
Free the schools, free minds!
Sincerely,
Adam Kosmin
