SuSE is not very Gnome friendly. I have been using 9.0 for a while and had similar problems, but finally got things sorted out after a lot of fiddling.
What I still can't figure out is why if I kill the X process Ctrl-Alt-Backspace (or use the kill -9 command) I end up getting sent to the login prompt, but when I hit enter after entering my password the machine hangs at a blank line. The only thing I have been able to do is reboot, but this is unacceptable. I can't even ssh from another computer; if I do the same thing happens.
This only happened after I upgraded to 9.0 from 8.2.
Is anyone else having this problem or might know how to fix it?
