SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Novel Meeting
|
I was hoping to see a few more faces at the Novel Meeting today, however, the meeting was rather fruitful. Novel seems to mixed ideas about it's free software aquisitions, and they clearly are talking about peppering GNU/Linux woth propriatory software 'services' such as their iprint and edirectory services as a business model. On the other hand, they have a clear eyes notion of the GPL, and they are dedicated to changing their corperate culture.
Unfortunately, much of their hope in bringing this change is based on lessons from Nat. It seems, in my opinion, that they are still lerching a little for better understanding, and are reaching out to groups like NYLXS. So we might have an oppurtunity to discuss needs and issues with Novel at the highest levels.
Afterwards, we joined the SuSE cocktail party, by far the largest party I saw. Everyone from IBM to the Linux Journal was there, with a lot of enthusiasm.
