SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Upcoming New York City Council Technology in Government Hearings.
|
Hello All,
I am reminding all of you of some upcoming hearings that the Committee on Technology in Government is holding. If you can, please join us. All events are open to the general public. No RSVP is necessary.
I would also like to inform you of some very good news. The Select Committee on Technology in Government has been elevated to a full, standing committee of the New York City Council. Attached is a press release announcing this change.
Now the information on upcoming hearings:
On Tuesday, February 10, at 1:00 p.m. in the 14th Floor Hearing Room of 250 Broadway, the Committee on Technology in Government will hold a joint oversight hearing with the Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises on Institutional Net (or I-net). I-net is a fiber optic network owned by the City of New York, built and maintained by broadband and cable franchise holders. The focus of the hearing will be on understanding how I-net is being used right now, how the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) plans to use I-net in the future and how I-net could be used to support the goal of providing technology access to local communities. At this hearing, we will hear testimony from DoITT, broadband and cable franchise holders, leading technology companies as well as community advocates.
On Monday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m. in the 14th Floor Hearing Room of 250 Broadway, the Committee on Technology in Government will hold an oversight hearing on the allocation and uses of the radio spectrum. The radio spectrum is a limited public resource. And the Committee is interested in ensuring that the City has the ability to control and manage the use of this public right-of-way for public safety purposes as well as as another potential conduit through which broadband access can be delivered to small business, nonprofit organizations and the average citizen.
I'd also like to inform you of a few upcoming technology events.
