Leave it to the New York Sun to publish probibly the best article of Copyright theory and practice in todays issue, on December 10th (which might be yesterday if your reading this late. On page 17, in the Arts and Letters section. The article is called, "Who Owns Mickey Mouse" and is a review of a book called 'The Economic Structure of Intellectual Property Law' by William Landes and Richard Posner, by Harvard University Press.
Amoung the quotes in the review:
The authors also have carefully calculated analyses of most of the big intel- lectual property issues which dominate the news....The authors do however make the larger point that the intellecutal property rights granted by the government have gradually undergone such an expansion that they now seriously threaten innovation.
The books is the seriuos economic and legal analysis that I've personally been saying that proponents of Free Software need to rebush bullshit analogies with the hard core facts of the negitive impact of the MPAA and the RIAA on the over- all economy.
I'm getting a few copies for the NYLXS Library.
