SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] New Gnome/NYLXS Project
|
During the GNOME Conference, David Sugar and myself discussed creating a new enterprise ready desktop design based on X and GNOME. We're hoping that this becomes a platform which can allow for greater use of Linux Desktops for enterprise programming development.
The essential aspects of this desktop is that their will be a dameon server which gives a standard X sceme. Plugging in a computer anywhere on the network will allow for the client to querry the server dameon. The dameom will then set up nuatiluis icons for standard desktop setups and then allow for authentication for more specific icons and set up orperties.
The icons, when clicked, will launch X programs on the SERVER to display on the client, making full use of X's authentication and networking capabilities, and destroying the concepts of 'thin clients' and 'network shares' which are currently prevelent.
This should probibly be a FSCC project as well.
We need to get together to discuss the outlines of the technology for this projects, and developement schedule.
