Gee ALex ...
It's not worth logging back into to NYLUG for this message. But you are really turning into one of the most ignorant people I've run across. I thought it was a cultural bias at first, but I've come to understand it's not just that. Your REALLY are just stupid to the maximum possible amount.
First: If the general American Public know as much about computers as they did their cars, YOU would be VERY VERY UNHAPPY. Because they would know a LOT more than they currently do, just like they know about their fuel injection, differentials, shocks, manifold, and breaks and transmition.
Anyone who's ever been stuck on the road and overcharged for repair, or seriously shopped for a new car, knows a lot about their cars, and it's a long term learning process.
If they had the same fundemental understanding of their computer, they would know how their hard drive works, how it interacts with the software, and how to test the damn DSL line with ping.
It's almost like you've NEVER left the Communist mindset of the old USSR.
AMERICANS ARE NOT DRONES.... We LIKE TO KNOW HOW OUR SHIT WORKS AND FIX IT.
Homework Assignment -- Learn something about how people relate to the equiptment ***HINT THEY NOT CHILDREN, STUPID, OR RETARDED***
There is just no hope for you. Your the WORST KIND of computer person. You have no faith in other individuals, your treat others like they are something to milk, and use technology to boost your ego over others in order to make them feel helpless and like shit.
You just don't GET IT.
That's why you've been on the bottom of my procmail filter for something like 3 years. Your a fundementally destructive person.
Was your mother an Alcoholic or drug abuser when you were in gestration?

I don't give a damn > > >how does it work, whether it has electric or diesel engine, how > > >transmission operates, I JUST WANT TO DRIVE TO THE STORE. > > I have a user like that--however, my answer to her (people skills are > necessary too, there are others where had I said this, it would have > resulted in a call to my boss, but this woman cracked up--this isn't > original by the way, not sure where I saw it)
> > Yeah, but I could see you calling the car place. "Hello, Toyota? My car > won't start." "Did you turn the ignition key?" > > "Ignition key? What's that? I don't wanna learn this tech stuff, I > just wanna drive!" I think this is somewhat contrived. There are things that user is expected to know (power button, start button, ignition key, wheel, blinkers), and there are things user doesn't need to know (registry, etc). I frankly have no idea whether my car comes with "limited slip differential" and half the time I'm not sure if its V6 or V8. I only know that I need "89 gasoline" for it in order to run, and every X000 miles to take it to get oil changed. If its anything more serious than that, I take it to the shop, and it will be their headache. If my car breaks down ("i have to take it to shop") more than once every 3 months, I get mad at manufacturer and the shop, and most certainly won't buy from that manufacturer and fix it in that same shop again.
Homework assignment: apply that to computers.
