It's not my mistake.
I've been saying this over and over to everyone I've been in contact with.
3 are looking at 3 speaches, including Richards. But we need to add a workshop for beginners somewhere in this, for both the University students and something for the general public.
> Richard is fantastic, but having him speak to 200 people who are already > active free software contributors about things they probably already > understand might not be the best use of the time.
The Keynote is not for the developers. They can eat Breakfast. Its for the New York hosting community, the professors on the campus, and around town, and for the press. The time other than this will be maximized for the developers community and allow for an interface between the developers and the public.

Were not going to be able to close the conference tightly, and it's not something you want to do. There is a lot of young people, and professionals interested in GNOME developement, how it's developed and who will be your future pool of talent for further development and enhancement (not to mention future funding). The school has a responsibility to expose it's student body to a range of professional and educational activities. And this is also NYLXSs goal that the New York Community should have a chance to participate and become educated in Free Software projects, and the nuts and bolts of how they are developed by participating up close with the established Gnome developement community, mostly by watching and listening.
Other than that, I agree that this is really straight forward.
We need about 2 hours in the morning for Keynoptes, and then rooms with internet connections for participationin the developement sessions. And I'd like to get one workshop in for the community, perhaps on Monday morning on GNOME II.
As hosts, NYLXS is planning for extra activities to make your people feel comfortable and to make your trip to New York worthwhile. But these are outside of the sessions. We are looking at meals, music, and entertainment.
Your going to be here on a Saturday night in New York. We're going to treat you to a fun evening :)
Were also working on Hotel Rooms and lodging.
But for the purposes of the rooms, I agree, this is getting more complicated than it needs be. The needs are very simple. And the school, which is one of the largest Campuses in the City, designed originally for 40,000 students, (I know I went there. It's a great campus), should have no problem accomedating this event. But what do we need a luncheon for? Dave, and I can handle the looking and make the arraingments. I know SUBO. I spent many evenings at the complex. The Penthouse is a GREAT facility and the building has terrific view of the city. It's very very nice. Everyone, however, is short on time. We are all volunteers and have real jobs :).
David will be in Manhattan at a conference tomorrow. I hope that we can rope him away for a few hours to see with me what is available and to cement this tomorrow, and get the costs. Then we can move forward with final arraignments.
NYLXS has about 20 volunteers it can call on to help do setups as needed.
Please, let's try to keep this simple and just keep everyone informed on this list so that if there are any problems they can be addressed. There is no way that we are going to be able to get everyone on this list into one room prior to November.
