The public has been sleep walking through the issues of copyright law
and digital rights managment for years. Slowing, the content industry
has been making felonies of nearly everyone in America. Now that the
RIAA is actually sueing, this is the best news for the Fair Use
advocates in 5 years.
Let's hope they keep on sueing, and perhaps we should have a 'SUE ME'
campaign. The press has been getting a free ride on this for years,
repeating the lies that P2P sharing is like theft, while not reporting
the basic problems of the grand squeeze on Fair Use.
Let them sue more, because the public isn't as stupid as Jack Valenti
and Hillary Rosen thinks. We KNOW that music shring isn't 'stealing'.
Now we are becoming aware that the law is jeorpizing the welfare of the
public.
It was the hope of the MPAA and the RIAA that they would slap every
computer with a DRM scheme and avoid awakening the public. Now perhaps
the public has been awaken, and the odious laws like the Bono act and
the DMCA can finally get repealed.
