Lycoris Users Immune to SCO Licensing Posted on Wednesday, August 06 -at- 12:39:22 PDT by Rus
Redmond, WA - August 6, 2003 - Lycoris revealed today that its flagship product, Desktop/LX, is based on Caldera OpenLinux, which Lycoris has a license to develop and distribute directly from SCO. The terms of this previous agreement lock in Lycoris's ability to alter the source code of the Caldera OpenLinux product, which it has done extensively and release the results as Open Source to the public.
"Anyone can still download the source to Caldera OpenLinux today and modify it as we have done under the terms of SCO's own freely distributable license," states Jason Spisak, Vice President of Market Development for Lycoris. "They have a specific licensing agreement with Lycoris for that source code, and both parties are adhering to that license, so our users have nothing to worry about."
Lycoris rejects SCO's recent claims regarding additional licensing for previously licensed technology which Lycoris has a binding current license to freely modify and redistribute. All Lycoris Desktop/LX users are unaffected by this new licensing program and are immune to any further changes in the SCO licensing structure due to the perpetuity of the prior agreement. Lycoris is confident that SCO will resolve any dispute with other companies using the utmost professionalism as it has with Lycoris regarding the absolution from any additional licensing fees.
Lycoris Familiar. Powerful. Open.
