Yeah, I'll have to agree with that.
I was thinking about how IBM has insinuated itself into the Linux community. I'm not sure that IBM deserves so much credit for what it thinks it has done for the Linux community.
I remember reading an article and an IBM exec was quoted as saying something like: 'We want to obliterate AIX and completely move Linux in in its place'. This was said at a Linux expo in SF I believe within earshot of a SCO executive. It was said before this whole fiasco began too.
I cant help but wonder if IBM intentionally baited SCO into legal action to rile things up.
Somewhere along the way IBM has decided that it has done so much for Linux. I originally liked Linux because of its independence and the community it fosters. I fear the moves taken by Oracle and IBM are going to taint that. SuSe, by virtue of being overseas, will the the last true independent source of Linux in the future.
Yep, I'm taking both sides of the fence because I keep missing how much I've become accustomed to going with the flow.
Another possiblity is this could make for a good case for OpenSourceSoftware. This could show that the best way to protects ones IP property is to reveal the source code. Once the code is exposed there can be no mistake where it originated from. Clearing up any IP issues could be that much easier and less messier.
Back on the right side of the fence, Steve M
