It's not 'vague' at all. It's time for you to do your homework and read about the business history of IBM.
On the way, see microchanel, amoung other stupid moves by IBM.

ACTION - WINDOWS BREAKS SAMBA PROTICALS FOR ACCESS AND EXCEL.
FACT, IBM SERVERS ARE THEN DEAD.
ACTION - MICROSFT EXTENDS IP PROTOCALS FOR 'SECURITY'
FACT, ALL UNIX SERVERS ARE DEAD
Jeez
You are too smart for this.
Do you REALLY need me to list the hundreds of times Microsoft has done things like this. What the hell do you think Passport, dotnet and trusted computing was about and why SO MANY of the MSFC based products ONLY work with IE.
You think IBM doesn't know this? Look up some of the past business articles on the websphere stratergy.....
IBM's problem isn't that they don't KNOW this. IBM's problem is that they don't have the vision to do anything about it.
today, right now, this minute, if your server doesn't work with a Windows Client - what USE does it have in business? Put that superior intellegence of yours in gear and think.
Why don't YOU go into a business and replace all their servers with GNU/Linux - and YOU discover all the problems. Let me clue you into something. Substantial applications simply will not work.
