I've installed OpenBSD since version 2.6. Its not tough once you've done it
two or three times. Use the insert instructions if in doubt. Generally, I
would only install OpenBSD on its own Hard Drive because the Disklabel
program can be daunting.
These are the best three links I have found for your info. If you like, I
can do a demo of a OpenBSD install at my office if you like on Monday
Evening. Should take approximately 1 hr to install OS, configure networking
and X, etc...

I think its a great idea to spend time something rather new and totally
different. There are a few things that should be noted ....
First, the install script is one massive shell script (pretty good shell
scripting too). So the install process itself is very very simple.
Next, BSD have this thing called disklabel. And basically if you aren't
careful, you could end up wiping your sytem. To make thing worse the
disklabel editing tool Openbsd ships with is rather confusing. so BE SURE
to
read up on it before attempting an install. And do make backups of
everything and anything.
Last time I installed Obsd (2.9 or so), the OS needed a primary partition, I
have no idea if this is the case, but it may very well be. Also the first
partition within the BSD disklabel should be the root file sytem.
You may have to reinstall lilo ... (assuming it does or does not give you a
choice.)
Lastly, do look at http://www.gobie.net/ It is a graphical OpenBSD
installer.
