I've noticed that all the big OEMs have this message these days. Coincidence? Take a look at: > > http://catalog.us.dell.com/CS1/cs1page2.aspx?br=1&c=us&CS=19&fm=10445&kc=6V414&l=en&s=dhs > http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=-840&storeId=1&categoryId=2286442&langId=-1&dualCurrId=73 >
After looking further, I found: http://www.smb.compaq.com/dstore/ctoBases.asp?ProductLineId=429&FamilyId=1602&c=HPSMBProd_d2200microtowerpc&n=D_I_DR_X_T_x_Right_Graphic&t=ad&r=HP_SMBProd_O&r=HP_ProdShowcase_O&n=D_I_DR_X_T_x_GenericNVP&c=HPProdShowcase_hpcompaqd2337529&t=ad
which appears to let you order one, but it's a convoluted path to get there.
I went back and looked at the original press release:http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press/2003/030702a.html
Then I clicked on the link near the bottom: http://www.hp.com/products/desktops
That took me to a list of machines. The Compaq d220 is at the top. If you click the "configure and buy" button, you'll see the choice to pick either the Linux version or the Windows version. However, if you click the "hp Compaq d220 microtower" link, it takes you to http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/12454-64287-89301-321860-f9-337529.html, which has the "Compaq PCs use genuine Microsoft Windows" message at the bottom. Clicking on the "how to buy" link on that page takes you to http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/jsp/us/en/howtobuy.jsp?seghomename=small%20%26%20medium%20business&seghomeurl=http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/eng/solutions/smb.html&segcode=sm which says that this product is not available online, which is in contradiction to the www.smb.compaq.com link that I posted earlier. What the heck?!?
I'm left with the impression that HP's website is almost impossible to navigate.
Cheers, Brent
