Despite the fact that useless flamewars occur over different technologies, one can still make authoratative distictions between different tools for different tasks, and this task is educating children (or young adults).
And no, no matter how good you are at C and C++, it still would not be a good language to start teaching with (and I'm sure you know all the reasons).
I would argue, that they should learn basic C in High School. but let's learn to walk before we run.
