SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Education Meeting Preminary report
|
Rob will give a more detailed report on the NYLXS Educational Meeting which took place tonight, and Adam took notes of the meeting, but I'd like to give a quick summary of meeting events and results.
First, I'd like to thank everyone who participated in this important function of NYLXS, and for all the members and non-members who participated at the meeting. The meeting was a huge success, and we covered a lot of ground.
First, Rob, in his first performance and a Chair of a Committee was hugely successful and shows great promise as an NYLXS officer.
Rob went through his agenda efficiently and with class. Most of the board members attended the meeting, including Mike Richardson, Evan Inker, Adam, myself (Ruevain) and Rob.
We have a commitment to adopt the GNU/Linux 1 class to a lesson plan for students in the next week. We discussed possible problems with hardware in the schools, and discussed potention solutions to over come this problem. The Agencies within the board have been contacted by NYPHP and they are presenting a proposal, which we agreed was fine. They asked us to present a Perl counter program the following week. We discussed the issue of not being dragged into an Perl, PHP point and counter point discussion with the board and found that to be counter productive. We will present to the Agency a broader student program based on GNU/Linux One, Perl, and the entire FSI ciriculum.
We touched on the proposal for a study on education, but got side tracked.
The meeting was disrupted in the middle by Jay Sulzberger, and Rob asked him to leave. Then Brett Wynkoop appeared at the meeting right after and tried to integrate himself into meeting and was rebuffed.
