I don't think my mails are coming through but believe I have located the
source of the problem as having something to do with the fact that I've
been signing messages sent to this list with PGP/MIME. I'll send this in
the clear and add a send-hook into my .muttrc so I can avoid failed
message transfers in the future.
Back on topic, I see this simple security issue turning into an unneeded
political issue within NYLXS. As far as I am concerned, root belongs to
one person and one person only (yes, just as in Highlander, "There can
only be one"), the person who has been tasked with the health and
maintenance of the server itself.
Now, we only need to determine who that person is.
Just because someone is the President of an organization, does not grant
them access to have the root password in my opinion. Of course, there's
nothing saying that this can't be the case within NYLXS, but I think
it's important for the members of this group to take a step back and
remember that uid 0 is assigned to a person because of the associated
responsibilty, not rank.
That said, who is responsible for the health of the server?
