SWEEPING INITIATIVE PUTS 80,000 COMPUTERS RUNNING GNOME INTO STUDENTS' HANDS
http://www.gnome.org/pr-extremadura.html
*Eighty Thousand* computers gentlemen. Is there any way that we can attempt such an outrageous thing here in the US?
let's see... if we order 80,000 cheap Walmart systems, or we bought in bulk from any of our favorite Taiwan suppliers at about $180.00USD each:
180*80,000=14,400,000
or at an even $400 with a cheap LCD monitor ($174) plus shipping and installation:
400*80,000=32,000,000
It begs the question: What's 32 million bucks to the US Government? How come we can't get 32 million dollars from the State government? It's a drop in the bucket when all is considered...
And NYLXS keeps $50 from each PC donated for operating expenses, installation, storage, etc.
50*80000=4,000,000
that's four million dollars... You can get your own building... 'nuff said.
