All these ideas are pretty similar, and most of them right on.
It is impossible to deny the importance of the web server to any group
today, but especially this group. I was hoping this would happen
without a let's all jump on Ruben day, but sometimes moving gingerly
does grind to a halt.
Yes the group's dns, web and mail servers should be seperate from any
member, or founder or president. Ruben has said in the past that there
are certain things he does not want to deal with and I find it easier to
deal with server administration issues remotely from here rather than
trekking out to Kings Highway just to get a root window.
I didn't ask Selso to write a "get the president root" email, but I had
expressed some frustration to him about how these issues had not been clear.
I find it really childish and annoying when things which would be simple
and normal in any group get blown all out of proportion, turned into
personal violations of friendships or whatever BS is going on now.
If Ruben absolutely does not want the NYXLS stuff in his house, I have
the space to store most everything here. I do not have a car or van to
get it here however.
I could temporarily host the server until we find a hosting solution.
I am perfectly comfortable taking over the administration of the box, as
president and head of the tech commitee.
Moving the server will be a bit upsetting. We would have to change the
DNS, and the records for the three sites, which are still in the process
of being transfered to one registrar. All the sites are using
www2.mrbrklyn.com as the primary dns and right now www2.mrbrklyn.com is
the NYLXS server. Obviously we can figure all this out, but I expect
there would be 2-3 days of perturbed service.
