SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Change of plans -- resignation
|
Unfortunately, the very routine act of the new administration determining the administration of and asserting control over the server which is obviously _the_ central asset of this technologically oriented group, has provoked all sorts of accusations and strife.
The situation has gotten too hostile for me to have any desire to move forward Ruben's dream. It is only right that I resign and let way for someone who has this desire and energy.
I have said many times, I will not work for Ruben. I do not believe this is a sustainable way of running a volunteer group.
I will also not work against Ruben. There is no doubt that NYLXS is his creation as he has invested the most energy into making it what it is. I have no desire to take this away.
I will, (as is the norm in any volunteer group, or open source project) work for myself and the ideals I hold dear.
Rather than cleaning someone else's house until I am comfortable enough in it to invite over friends and honored guests, I find that I have much more energy to create my own venues for advocating and advancing free software.
I am glad to have met all of you, may we meet again. I feel worst about the people who had put hope in my ability to change certain things and whom I have let down.
Transition:
Michael Richardson, NYLXS's elected vice president, is willing to take over as president. He is president effective today. (Perhaps the board should clarify the chain of succession.)
Other issues:
I have the group's video camera here at my house. Arrangements should be made to pick it up. I also have two books from the library. I am willing to teach until a new Unix 1 teacher can be found, and will donate my notes to the group. There is an extensive readme for the software I developed for the radio show in /usr/local/radio* The new template for the website should be clear enough (directories /skel and /template in the nylxs.org directory tree, there are also development files in /members. hard for me to remember now as I can't ssh into the box ). I am sorry it has come to this, but I have no energy to deal with the conflict which has troubled this group since the beginning. It seems I can do nothing to calm it.
Good luck and may you all have many successes,
