I've been thinking about it, and the problem is that from the perspective of someone who isn't interested in software, Linux isn't really compelling.
Neither is Windows or OS X, for that matter. Most people who even want to use a computer only want it for the handful of applications they use. Otherwise they just want it to work consistently.
If the FSI teaches a class about software for people who just don't care, there may be a selling point. If there are recipients of the flyer who have heard of Linux and are interested in software, they might be motivated. To them, the best approach could be about learning a stable, powerful operating system that helps them learn the workings of their computer while giving them the freedom to use their systems however they want. Knowledge, power and freedom combined.
That, and maybe getting on board with the new, liberating movement in technology that will give them an advantage in the future.
