The angle i was going to go with, is first start a small conversation about them, then ask them about apache,mysql, sendmail, perl, cgi and other free software programs, to see if they understand the freedom of the software is what allows it the to be so powerful. Next i'll talk about 3d and the web to hopefully get them intrested in blender. And finally recommend book like free as in freedom,or the cathedral & the bazaar.
