It seems my reiserfs filesystem corruption issues are something more deep. I have installers seg faulting, and more random non-repeating errors than I can keep track of.
Is it true that there are no free software hardware diagnostic utilities?
I have come across tongue in cheek comments that gcc is a great way to test one's hardware, but I must admit I pull a blank at finding out how to get gcc to tell me if I have ram issues or motherboard chipset issues.
I can start switching ram and pulling pci cards but the combinatorial possibilities are daunting and without some diagnotisic tool the amount of time required to discover if I have found the problematic piece of the puzzle uncalculable.
Thanks for any advice,
-- Marco
