SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] NY Fair Use Meeting recap from last night
|
Somewhere in the mist of discussing the Fair Use attributes of Comic books of the 1960's, 7-'s and 80's, NY Fair Use met last night and committed itself to a 3 prong course over the next month.
First: NYU Vital Books:
NYU School of Dentistry has been using a DMCA encrypted text book which is forced on the student body from Vital Books. NY Fair Use is going to protest this abuse of student rights and theft of property from the public.
NYU forces it's students to purchase a DVD for about $700, plus a laptop. At the end of the semester, the DVD turns itself off. Students then need to purchase the disk again.
Second: Public Relations Efforts:
NY Fair Use is going to professionalize it's public relations effort and make a strong effort to gain main stream press coverage outside of the Tech industry.
Third: We are planning an action for the LOC hearing on DMCA acceptions in Washington DC in April.
