SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] New NYLXS Classroom Space, and Full Time Internet Cafe?
|
Hello Marco:
As you know, we've been negotiating and looking to work with Kings Games for permanent space and classroom space.
I'm sitting over there now. They are moving downstairs and they are moving into two floors, the street level and the basement.
They built the basement largely to our Specifications :). It is completely wired with cat five, ad they are offering to allow us to move about 6 new Free Software boxes down there. It will be, if we decide to do this, not only a great Free Software internet Cafe on one of the busiest locations in NYC, but in addition, it can become a permanent teaching location for NYLXS. Alex, the owner, is just waiting for us to do whatever we want. The machines would be rented for $5 an hour to the public, and perhaps we can make a deal for NYLXS members. The space is freshly built and BRAND FREAKEN NEW.
If the FSCC can get the paperwork done to make ourselves a legal school, we can teach there during the daytime, and even get NYS Department of Labor Funding for students (is that cool or what). It might be an idea to possible talk to IBM about Webshpere training etc. There are LOTS of possibilities.
One donw thing, though, is that they are moving from the Megapath 16 Mbs SDSL to something with cable. I don't know what that will affect yet. But this is very close to ideal for us with our budget.
Ruben
