SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] NY Fair Use

While I'm on this topic of NY Fair Use
The board of NYLXS voted to change the name of NY Fair Use to The New York Association of Copyright Sakeholders
Mr Wynkoop, as expected, gave the organization the NYLXS.org domain after the election (a move remenecent of Iran releasing the hostages after the Reagan Election). The board will be releasing a press statement on this matter in a few days.
The board, and even the NYLXS general membership, remains angry about the abuse of NYLXS over the past year, and the destruction of the NY Fair Use name through Jay and Brett's abuses.
We've decided to make these name changes for 2 reasons.
First, we believe the new name better descibes the mission of NY Fair Use, which has been dragged through the mud. It impales the organizations mission directly into the name and allows us to stand up and say:
Hello:
I'm XYZ, and I represent The New York Association of Copyright Stakeholders, thereby throwing that rhetoric right in their face.
Secondly, the board and the organziation is drained and angry. They want to seperate themselves as quickly as possible from the destructive actitivities of Mr Wynkoop and Mr Sulzberger, even though we have an air tight case to defend NY Fair Use with in court if need be.
So, it's a better name and a less difficult route.
The egov action was reported on The (GNU)Linux Journal. We are testifying at the Copyright Office of the LOC, on May 2nd (sec 1201 of the DMCA). If your in the states, the office all but asked us to bring a peanut gallery. John Gilmore might be also testifying that day. I would not be unhappy to show some teeth with the EFF present. If we plan it well, it can be a huge step to getting this issue into the public eye and getting mainsteam (like the NY Times) press. That is our goal. I want to annoy a few people in the community and shake them out of their slumber.
