First Board Meeting of the 2nd administration of NYLXS
The NYLXS Board met at the Killarny Rose, 80 Beaver Street, in Lower Manhattan at 8:00PM
Attendance:

Marco Chaired the meeting and called it to order:
The board compiled a list of the current Committees: * Membership - To oversee membership policy and track hours and dues * Education - encouraging adoption of Free Software in the education system, providing support to educational institutions and developing course curriculums, scheduling of classes and teachers. * Lobbying - establishing and maintaining relationships with other groups having similar goals, disseminating information about where and when people can show up and add their voice, speaking up on the issues facing the Free Software community.
* Journal - produce an NYLXS Journal and other informational materials. * Finance - Report to the board on the status of the financial position of the organization.
Ruben Safir was nominated to the Membership Committee chairman. Nominated Marco Second Ray passed unanimously
Michael Richardson was nominated to The Public Relations Committee (currently an ad-hoc committee).
Selso DaSilva was nominated to the Education Committee Second Ray passed unanimously
The previous Real Estate Committee was voted by the board to be folded into the Finance Committee
Joe Maffia was nominated to the Finance Committee Second everyone
Ruben Safir was nominated to the Lobbying Committee Second Everyone
Marco made a motion to make the Free Software Chamber of Commerce a Permanent Committee Second by Ruben Passed unanimously
Ruben Nominated to the Journal Committed Passed unanimously
Ray Connelly was nominated to head The Free Software Chamber of Commerce Seconded by Michael Richardson Passed unanimously
Marco Motions to make a permanent Technology Committee and to put the Previous Web server design committee into it. seconded by Evan Inker Passed by the whole board
The Technology Subcommittee is to be charged as follows: Inventory NYLXS Infrastructure assets In charge of Domain Registration Issues Charged to maintain Infrastructure Web Server Administration Database Administration
Ruben: The library needs to be better documented and maintained Evan: Motion to move library to education sub-committee Michael Seconds motion: Ruben: The library is more than an education facility. Ruben: Library needs more volunteers and a librarian Michael Volunteers to take over library Marco appoints Michael to the library ad-hoc committee Ruben: Current Inventory of Technology Equipment 2 Servers (one tower SCSI and one PC IDE based) One Video Camera 10 Video Cassets 1 Makee Mixer 2 Microphones 1 Monitor at Rosenzweig and Maffia
Evan: Library should maintain a software library Motion to build such a library Marco Seconded Passed unanimously
Ruben - We need to invest in a phone patch and 6 new workstations
Marco Nominated to Technology Infrastructure committee Second Evan Passed by board
Ruben - We are offered a new Technology Center and Internet Cafe at Kings Games on Kings Highway. We need 6 computers. Cafe charges $5 per hour for usage. Large new space built virtually to our specification for teaching and to make the first Free Software Internet Cafe in NYC. We can move our tables and chairs to the new cafe.
Marco Approves expenditure for new machines.
Ruben Reports on last weeks NY Fair Use Meeting:
1- Washington Testimony for the DMCA on May 2nd 2- NYC Government Action to be planned 3- Protest NYU Vital Books planned
Ruben: Motion to change the name of NY Fair Use to the New York Association of Copyright stakeholders.
Seconded: Michael Richardson and approved by the board unanimously
Ruben: Motion to make a press release that NY Fair Use, a sub committees of NYLXS and the original and only legitimate NY Fair Use is to be renamed as per previous motion to the NY Associate of Copyright Stakeholders. The name change is to better reflect the educational and lobbying mission of NY Fair Use and to separate NY Fair Use from the damage done to it by Brett Wynkoop and Jay Sulzberger.
Motion second by many Voted Unanimously.
Selso: Need to make a pilot curriculum for NY Board of Education Meeting in late April. Meeting is to be scheduled for the coming week.
