The point of nylxs, in any case was, as I understood it, not to focus on writing code :). I consider the fact that nylxs has written no code as an organization actually to be a success in focusing on what it's goals were, and not a point of failure.
This is not to say that I think NYLXS should have no involvement in developing free software. In fact, I would argue ultimately it is an extension of it's educational and advocacy goals, but it is not the focus of what NYLXS needs to do. Certainly I think individual members can and should contribute to free software development, and if there is a constructive role where NYLXS can participate in that process, why not?
