Hey vin,
To test if the module was loaded the command is lsmod (as root) if there were errors upon loading the module they would show up in /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog or sometimes /var/log/daemon.log look in /var/log/ for good candidates.
tail /var/log/messages will give you the last 10 lines.
All of the commands you ran. including editing the append= line in lilo.conf, adding insmod ide-scsi to rc.local etc are different ways of doing the same thing, making sure that ide-scsi gets loaded automatically on boot-up, but nothing has proven to me that ide-scsi has been loaded properly.
