SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] minutes from last week's meeting (just for the record)
|
All,
Most of the goings on of last week's meeting have already been brought up on the list, however for the sake of having one concise and official record of the meeting I am posting the minutes of last week's meeting.
Here it goes.
Ruben started off the night by giving a brief history of NY Fair Use and NYLXS for the benefit of new members.
The official meeting began with a three part motion to permanently ban Brett Wynkoop from NYLXS, to permanently ban Jay Salzburger from NYLXS and to officially recognize NY Fair Use as part of NYLXS.
The motion to ban Brett Wnykoop from NYLXS was voted into effect unanimously by all Board Members present. The motion to ban Jay Salzburger from NYLXS was voted into effect with one dissent. The motion to recognize NY Fair Use as part of NYLXS was voted into effect unanimously.
It was also decided that absent Board Members would have a chance to dissent on the list. (Which I believe they've all done at this point)
The next order of business was the NYLXS Journal. It was decided unanimously that going forward NYLXS will pay $50 to journal article authors and that the Journal will no longer be free and that a $25 yearly subscription price will be charged. Also suggestions were requested for generating new advertising revenues.
Discussion then began on the Starrett City project. Selso has already developed contacts in Starrett City and will be heading up the project. The goal is to upgrade their current computer systems from a legacy Microsoft product to Linux Systems. Additionally Selso will investigate the possibility of using the Starrett City computer facility as a location for installfests.
Next on the Agenda was the issue of NYC IT Infrastructure. Ruben proposed that we begin a campaign to promote the use of Free Software in the City's IT Infrastructure. No definite plans were made, other than that the campaign will involve face to face meetings with all of the members' City Council Members. In addition the slogan for the campaign will be "Bloomberg uses free software, Why not City Hall?"
The meeting then moved to discussion of another new project, a business expo at Katherine Gibbs. This project will be lead by Bill Putney. We still need ideas for presentations and well as volunteers to hell Bill get this project moving.
Next, the possibility of a Cable Access Show was discussed. Selso is also heading up this project. He will be gathering up the necessary forms to request a time slot. Volunteers will also be needed for this project, so get in touch with Selso if you would like to help.
Next an election committee was formed. The committee members include Spidey, Dave Williams and Selso. The mission of the committee is to ensure that the elections are carried out fairly, i.e. ensure that everyone only votes once and that the votes are counted in a verifiable and accurate manner.
Joe Maffia then gave the financial report. NYLXS currently has about $2000 in the back. For the year of 2002 NYLXS generated roughly $20,000 in income.
Lastly we are asking for help with grant writing. If anyone has any experience with grant writing please send some mail to the list and give us a hand if you can.
-Joe
