I strongly disagree with you on this.
The anger that fuels this situation appears to me to be based on concern about jobs. And that anger seems to be leading to a very counterproductive sequence of events that have already started.
You would have to be a philosopher, a luftmentsh, or someone with an independent, relatively-secure source of income to seriously regard concern about jobs as a distraction.
Let me quote from two emails sent by Ruben:
---------------- On 2/9 he wrote:
I know the market in the NYC area. I'm resposnsilbe to over 100 Free Software skilled workers, the greater bulk of them unemployeed since September of 2001
---------------- And on 2/12 he wrote:
This is not right. The results of LWE took money out of David Sugar's pocket and cost my membership money.

People need to be put in a position of having to think three time before putting the livelyhood of FS deveopers in jeopardy.
Brad... how many children do you have to feed? David and I together make over 10.
----------------
When people's core needs are threatened, they don't think in terms of abstract principles. They do what they think they need to do, even if it is counterproductive.
Only when they become more secure do they return to thinking about abstract principles.
In terms of abstract principles, jobs and what it takes to get them may be a sidebar and a distraction. But to worried breadwinners they are a central issue.
