The attached notice went up on Marketing List from me on Jan 21--right in the midst of LinuxWorld. The notice was intended to get confirm or second opinion from the OOo Community whether it was ok to pull out of the original conference and also to offer my recommendation to go ahead with the new formation (which, at that time, was being pushed to get announced on Thurs at Linux World...so there was time pressure for me to turn around an answer). Everyone on Marketing had the opportunity to comment, some may have missed it.
The reason that the formation of the NEW consortium only came out today was out of respect to the sensitivity of the formation details and associated press release and organizational details that were formed largely in the dark.
There has been nothing to discuss on the OOo side since Nick, Justin and a few others had given the ok to move ahead on Jan 21. And nothing has taken place on the NEW consortium yet.
Participating in the NEW consortium is a no-brainer for OOo as a natural part of all the Linux distros being a part of the OOo Community by dint of their bundling us (or our need to get them to bundle us soon). It's a natural part of the OOo Linux Distro Relations Dept.
Any questions, I'll be happy to answer; but I would recommend anyone review the related links and news articles about the consortium first, since I don't know much more than that.
