I forget how I did it previously, or if it worked. They (lwn.net) are now subscription only, so I don't know if the press release will make it to the public site in time. The site publishes the weekly news to subscribers, then posts that issue online for the public when it is a week old, and the new issue goes to subscribers only. So any issue that you are looking at online without a subscription is now a week old at the earliest.
As for lwn.net, I'll look at it during the next hour or so, and if I figure it out, I'll post what I did, or what should be done. If you get it, post the info on what you did, and I'll document it for the future.
I don't remember if they have a calendar to publish to or not, and if this is restricted by subscription or not.
This is what my post mortem was all about. Getting the sources for publicity. Documenting who, how, deadlines, phone numbers, emails, etc. to get the info posted, where the info would be published, estimated reach, target audience, what to do before, what to do during, what to do after, etc.
I set up a spreadsheet in OpenOffice to do this, but I haven't filled it with much info yet. Everybody who was involved with contacting others on publicity and access needs to get back to me with the above info. Look at the post mortem email I sent the same week as the demo. Also, don't post it to hangout, send it to me personally, as I've been requested not to post certain contacts publicly, and I've been raked over the coals on something (with contact info) I've posted to hangout previously.
Vin.
