SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] CUNY Demo Post Mortom/Board Meeting
|
I spoke to Phil this afternoon about how the Business Demo has worked out.
The Demo was the second one we've put together, and I believe that Phil brings some interesting aspects of the sucesses and failures of the mission.
First, let me say that the Demo was a success. We reached maybe 800-1000 people, although many of these people were students attending the univesity. Mike was kind enough to record all of the classes, and we have had developed an important resource for future workshops and events.
While we did not drive as many small business people as we would have liked, we have developed many useful contacts in the business community and further established our name and logo. In addition, we had a nice write up in the NY Sun and we are getting better at Public relations.
We are going to be holding a great install feast on November 5, and I expect to put many of these mechanisms to use in the coming days in order to keep NYLXS in front of the public.
Phil points out that we have to yet overcome other areas of Public Relations. Kevin Millani said to have a mailing list, US Postal Service, of business leaders and people in NYC for outreach. Phil wants to see us use this kind of mailing list to publisize the NYLXS business and educational efforts. Such a mailing, however, can cost several thousand dollars. And then Phil would like to push things forward by following up with phone calls.
I agree that this level of activity, which has so far been beyound our reach, is our next step.
The Free Software Chamber of Commerce is likely the venue to move this forward. Tuesday at Noon, we are going to meet for our first Networking Meeting. We've already made some contacts between group members to stimulate the economy, and to cut some business action for the membership.
We should have a board meeting for NYLXS Business (NOT BRETT BUSINESS) on the 31 of October (which is Thurday) in order to plan our next activities on this business front.
In addition, I made contact with people for educational system in the public schools at the Demo. Education is a terrific area to be in, and to get Free Software in. We will be discussing this as well.
