SUBJECT | Re: [hangout] Publicity

Publicity tasks that others will have to pick up:
1. Get the demo info to the college radio stations. Print out the flyer, and try to fax it to them for them to add it to their calendars and announcements. Pitch it as a LaGuardia event. It is more likely to be announced and listed because LaGuardia is a school, is a non-profit, and not a corporation. NYLXS is not non-profit yet, and they generally want to charge you for the advertising or refuse to run it on public slots of college radio stations and cable stations. This is Queens Public Television's rules as well.
2. Get the demo in the calendars in the newspapers community columns or calendar columns or events columns. I submitted to Newsday Queens calendar, and submitted to two New York Times reporters, but I doubt NYT will do anything, they don't have a community calendar.
3. Try and find out about NY1 cable news (Time Warner Cable) television community listings. I submitted to their online calendar, see if it is there, if not, resubmit.
4. Try other papers. I couldn't find anything on NYPost's site for submissions, try their hardcopy paper. Look for community calendar or events, see the byline of who compiles it, then call them asking for a fax number or email address for that person, and fax or email the flyer. Don't send attachments, send a text email with a summary, and with hyperlinks. Attachments are usually removed before reaching recipient, and its not good etiquette.
5. Any other ideas? try them.
6. Don't submit to Newsforge until at least Monday morning. I'll write it when I get back or someone else can if they want. But don't do it till Monday, as we want it to stay on their front page for at least one work day, and as news happens, the older stuff gets pushed to the archive pages.
7. Do submit the info to other sites. We want a good foundation prior to the newsforge listing, that may help get it listed on slashdot.
8. Have a good weekend.
9. Monitors are still available for pickup in Queens if anyone needs them. 14", maybe a few 15". Let me know Monday, or call me on cell phone.
I'll be offline until late Sunday night, so I won't be able to do anything on publicity till then.
Vin.
