Memo October 16th, 2002: Free Software Enterprise Expo:
This coming week is the Big Free Software Business Expo and LaGuardia College CUNY in Queens. As the time is arriving quickly for this event, NYLXS making a general call for volunteers for this event. Now is the time to become involved. Dozens of people have asked where they can help NYLXS in it's mission. This is the time to become involved.
Phil and Dimiter has worked hard to bring this event to the community. They are now seeking your involvement. Other things that we are involved with is currently on the back burning. Everyone should put aside other engagements, where possible, in order to work on this event.
The Demo is being held all day on October 23rd. The last Business Demo, held at the CUNY Graduate center in Manhattan was a huge success. Everyone involved came from the event energized and most of us came away with new business. This is a very worthwhile event both for NYLXS, and for you as individuals.
Our plan at this time is to have a staging of equipment and setups at NYLXS Headquarters on October 22rd, through the night. We will bring our equipment and setup on the day of the Demo in Queens. The following items need to be done as soon as possible. Please sign up for at least one of these activities..
First, and primarily, we need to post our flyers in and around Queens near the event.
We need someone to contact Newsday, the Daily News, the Post and the NY Sun and get the event on the October 23rd calendar.
We need to contact the Small Business Bureau of Queens, the Queens Chamber of Commerce, and Queens Borough Hall.
We need someone to help build a Kiosk for the main greeting room.
We need help moving equipment to Queens, and to help with the set up.
We need greeters in the main room to have people sign in.
We need NYLXS Buttons and literature about the new Free Software Chamber of Commerce and Business Network.
We need to get the event listed with the Online publishers. Vinnie gave a list of them previously.
This event is very high profile. People come away from this is very lasting impressions. Mike will be recording many of the events on tape or later distribution. This is your chance to make a broad impact.
