Without the great conversation, what do we have? Certainly not a functional society. Without which a republic is not possible.
If you cannot follow this conversation to it's conclusion, the least you can do is acknowledge your self as it's terminator, rather than spreading the blame. Making a assertation and running from a resulting conversation is irresponsibility to everyone in this society.
It may not be easy but it is our responsibility to our country and our neighbors.
