SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Organization and Achiving Goals
|
I'm becoming increasingly distressed as we now move into the late summer about some of the latest developments I see in NYLXS and NY Fair Use. Whie it seems that there are now even greater calls for activities by both organizations, commitments and fund raising efforts are stalling do to a basic failure of people to live up to their obligations which they commit to.
When I envisioned NYLXS, I wanted to create a truely healthy and balanced organization. Unlike NY Fair Use, I felt we needed an organization which is capable of providing a wide variety of needs for our membership by providing everyone a venue to practice your trade, become educated, join with others in marketing and promoting, and provide funding for political discourse. For whatever reason, it's not coming together now and I think some people have the wrong idea about the thrust of NYLXS.
NYLXS is not at it's core a political organization. It's a self help organization designed to energize the community and provide a foundation for individuals to develop their person, socially, politically and economically... not necessarily in that order.
In order for our political machine to function, we need to be funded. This funding is critical to our ability to accomplish the promotion of Free Software. I need everyone to take their obligations seriously for everyones benefit.
Something as simple as the organization of our party is JUST NOT BEING DONE.
I'll tell you guys something. This is the EASIEST thing in the world to organization. We're just gonna go out on the water, listen to music, donate a few bucks of the orgnaization, and DRINK. What is so damn hard. I expect results on this by Monday or I'm going to close the organization. I'll finish out the last class and we're done. We'll NEVER get the damn dinner up and running by October with invitations, and then we'll never get the building, never get the enrollment for the classes, and never be able to fund any more outreach to High Schools or trips to Washington.
And those of us who slapped ourselves on the back about how well we did in DC a few weeks back. Shame on YOU ALL. A proposal went out on a letter writing campaign and aside from the THREE I wrote, not a single other letter went out. Instead, we're playing the stupid game of PAss the god damn buck.
Oh - Let's run to Washington for the FCC. Oh - Let's organize an umbrella organization so more people can complain about not doing anything, but on even more issues.
I got an idea, let's go visit WWWACS and show them all how smart we are.
Foey.
The single biggest thing NY Fair Use needs now is an infussion of funds and a focus on following up our break through by writing Berman about the hacking Bill, EMPHASISING DRM IS THEFT, and WE ARE THE STAKEHOLDER.
That's what's needed right now. Screw EVERYTHING ELSE.
There is always SOME EXCUSE. Everyone has one.
We need to get that Queens Demo up, and I need people ON THIS NOW. WE NEED MORE JOBS, and ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. We need it TODAY. Homeless people make poor advocates. We need to start a regular networking meeting for our consultants to swap jobs and run down leads.
If anyone has work, we need to get people on IT.
We need that DESKTOP Training Program, and our accounting Desktop.
I'm sick of asking everyone again and again to get things done, and to watch project afte rproject Die.
What happened to our Open Office initiative? Why don't I have a whole website on our development of this.
And on and on. And Jay can just pipe down now, because specific INDIVIDUALS have been assinged every one of these tasks. You guys are just letting eachother down. And it's rippling through us now in terms of real dollars and cents.
I want committee member reports by the end of this next week with complete explanation of what your committees have done, and a plan for getting MORE DONE.
Any I want everyone to post your phone numbers for other members to get a hold of you, but not to the list. Sne d it to me and I'll send the to the membership.
This is WHY WE NEED the boat trip. It's needed for Comradery and to make it easier to work together.
Ruben
