SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Class Location Idea
|
I went to Bryant Park yesterday at lunch time to work from the park for a while (using the wireless connection provided there), when the thought hit me. Why not hold some NYLXS classes on a regular basis in Bryant Park -- weather permitting. This would be great for many reasons:
1. Lots of exposure and possibly even free publicity due to all of the other people that use the park and will be interested in what is going on.
2. Do not have to spend money to rent space.
3. There is wireless connectivity so that people can make use of their laptops.
4. A dry erase board would be fairly easy to transport to such a class.
5. The only difficulty would be that a decent solution for using a computer to teach the class (i.e., how do you project the image or transport a large monitor?)
You could probably have students pay for the class...But an alternative might be to have a free Linux for Windows users class where you teach people who are used to Windows how to use Linux and show them all the great benefits for doing so. This class could be designed as a "hook" to get people interested in paying for further Linux education in some of the other classes. With a free class, we can encourage people who are wandering through the park to check it out.
