SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] DC 7/17: Slogans for Demo Production

We Are The Stakeholders DRM is Theft
I normally don't take much truck in some of what the "DRM is theft" trope carries as implications. If we *reduce* our rights in information to property rights, or let it appear that this is what we are settling for, that will very easily and quite predictably be used against the public's interests. If we are profoundly successful, this will be the greatest danger in the runoff. Still, I believe that Ruben and Jay are onto something here, while the danger remains.
NOTE WELL THAT:
It works *extremely* well in terms of bluntly reversing one of the other side's key syllogisms. It will penetrate the media PROFOUNDLY if it gets print. That's a big payoff.
And then, the set of two is a composition. You can't add more to them and get the impact.
And finally, the reason that Ruben stresses: It assures us that the media picks up our message and we therefore CONTROL THE FACT THAT the impact will be great.
The fact is, from my standpoint, we're just skating very close to the edge of the 1st Amendment vs Fourth Amendment split in information freedom politics. As we approach it, we approach a precipice -- but let us simply know that we are doing so.
Let's begin production.
Let's use these two slogans.
And let's leave it at that.
Seth
