SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Wednesday 26 June 2002 Silicon Alley Live Broadcast from TECHXNY and More on the UNIGROUP GNU/Linux Multimedia Meeting
|
Below are two notices. The Silicon Alley live broadcasts from the show floor traditionally offer the widest ranging and most useful interviews. And Marco Scoffier's presentation on GNU/Linux audio, video, and imaging is is of particular importance today because of Hollywood's successful move to standardize on the GNU/Linux platform for big budget movies, and also because the free software platform embiggens even the lowest budget movie maker/music maker/imager.

Enclosed is update #2 on our June 2002 Expo meeting...
============================================ UNIGROUP OF NEW YORK JUNE 2002 ANNOUNCEMENTS ============================================
------------------------------------------------- 1. UNIGROUP'S JUNE 2002 GENERAL MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT -------------------------------------------------
When: WEDNESDAY 26-JUN-2002
Where: TECHXNY / PC EXPO Jacob Javits Convention Center Core Meeting Room on Lower Level (to be determined)
Time: 5:30pm (after show hours)
Note: We probably will start closer to 6:00pm to allow people to arrive from work, but we should have the room from 5:30pm.
------------------------------------------------ Topic: Linux Multimedia Tools: Audio, Video and Imaging ------------------------------------------------
Speaker: Marco Scoffier
We also may have at least one Linux/Unix vendor as a guest speaker.
Unigroup's JUNE 2002 Expo Meeting will be held Wednesday Evening at the Javits Center, after the show.
As of this time (Tuesday), we do not yet have the meeting room assigned... it should be assigned Wednesday morning by the show management. We hope to send out another Email and update our web page tomorrow with that information as soon as we can.
In any event, the assigned Unigroup meeting room will be posted AT THE EXPO at the EXHIBITOR SERVICES DESK which is situated to the immediate left of the Main Entrance to the Main Exhibit Hall. Go to this desk to find out where Unigroup is meeting. Note that the room may not be assigned till the afternoon.
I was told today that Unigroup will probably wind up on Level 1 in the Core Meeting Rooms prefixed by 1B or 1D. The 1B rooms are towards the North end of Javits by the banks of telephones on the 1st floor. The 1B rooms are downstairs situated between the Web Services Edge Show and the DVexpo Show. The 1D rooms are downstairs center of Javits. The main Special Events hall (near the food courts) downstairs is surrounded by the 1D rooms. For reference, the rooms prefixed by 1A 1B 1C 1D 1E run as follows: the 1A rooms are near the Northern and the 1E are near the Southern ends of Javits.
Keep an eye on our web page: http://www.unigroup.org and stop by the Exhibitors Services Desk for updates.
Unigroup would like to thank TECHXNY and CMP for their support regarding member discounts and a meeting room. I have heard that the Unigroup Source Code for free admittance to the show continues to function where other Source Codes were turned off days ago.
This meeting, like all our Expo meetings in the past, will be Free and Open to the Public.
We are planning to have refreshments (but not food) at our meeting, but we cannot make any promises at this time (we'll know more tomorrow).
Note: Your TECHXNY/PC EXPO Badge should get you into all areas of the show, including the DVexpo show downstairs. Although it looks like another isolated show, it isn't.
Also, you will NOT need an Expo badge to get into our meeting.
