IF the input to the sound card is to high then one of the following is
true:
1. some one connected a line level output to a mike level input
2. some one has the line level set at greater than 1Vpp
The solutions are:
1. connect line level outputs to line level inputs
2. connect mic level outputs to mic level inputs
3. use an attenuater to match line out to mic in
4. properly set output level from mixer.
5. place an attenuator between the mixer and the sound card input.
