The annoying thing is that it would remove the main part of the virus, but the code that caused Outlook/Outlook Express to automatically launch files would remain, so it would try to launch a window (I had everything set to prompt or disabled, so I'd get a message asking me if I wanted to open a file whenever I previewed one of those half-virus messages).
That's one of the two reasons that Klez is here to stay, probably for years. It auto-executes even if Outlook or OE are set to not allow that sort of thing, and it obfuscates the sender, by randomly picking return addresses from the victim's computer. So people won't be notified that they're infected like with Melissa, and victim's don't even have to open the infected attachment to be hit with the virus, merely previewing the message is enough for infection.
So, I went back to Eudora. I've had problems with McAfee in the past never catching viruses. I was on Norton 2002 for a while, but lately it was really slowing down and having problems scanning incoming mail. I saw a lot of recommendations for AVG anitvirus on Slashdot, and since it's free and updated constantly I thought I'd give it a try. Of course I haven't had a virus message come in yet for me to see what happens, but scanning is much faster than Norton 2002 was. http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_downl.htm
