Over 10 years ago I was working at a company for a few months when the owner came over to me and placed a document on my desk. He wanted me to read it and sign it.
It was, puportedly, an employment and a confidentiality agreement.
I wouldn't sign it right away, and said I'd need to have my lawyer look at it.
When I read the document among the several items listed was my pay. In the document it was put down as a monthly amount, instead of the weekly amount I'd been drawing. If I'd signed the document, I would have been paid over $10,00 a year less than the compensation I was receiving.
That was only one of many changes detrimental to me. In addition, there were no mentions of items in my interest.
I brought up the matter to the owner and said I coudn't sign the document, and showed him the unilateral changes.
I only stayed there for 6 more months as he tried twice more to lower my compensation.
The agreement was never signed. And it's why I work as a conultant and not as an employee for a company.
