Brendan, I am saying this specifically to you, but I also want to say this to other people on this list.
In any human endeavor there are people who disagree with each other, even dislike each other. I may be young, yes much younger than you even, but I have worked with a variety of organizations in the past. It is the nature of collaborative environments to have disagreements. The same is true for different work environments. I don't even get along with my family all the time.
What I can say is this: There is something about Free Software that brings us to this table to have this discussion. Something about what it is right now, and in the promise of what it could be, that makes us willing to fight, to argue, to develop friendships, and ultimately, to work to bring us there.
I am heartened that you are spending time and effort supporting the cause of Free Software that we all believe in. You offered to help yesterday by proposing to set up a committee to address user's needs and develop a plan as to how to meet them. You asked how we felt about the idea, and if I am reading the responses correctly, it sounds like we were open to the idea. If you would still be interested in helping us follow through with this idea, please do.
If you are interested in moving this organization forward, and helping us help the community, you are welcome to.
