With all the talk about Open Source, or "free," software, it's still unclear to many just what it is; its benefits and ramifications for individuals and companies, productivity and business. So WWWAC is pleased to announce the start of its Open Source SIG, where Open Source software will be discussed and demystified.
OSSIG leader Clay Gordon will get things going by presenting the work that he has done over the past 9 months developing Heck.com using entirely Open Source technologies. He will discuss the business case Heck considered for using Open Source tools as well as the development process, deployment issues, and perceived competitive advantages of Open
Source, especially in contrast with the "best of breed" development model, and discuss the value Open Source has added to the money-raising process in this tight economy.
Should be an interesting and informative look into this growing, if not well understood, software development "movement."
