SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Systems with pre-installed Linux
|
There are quite a few choices for pre-installed systems. IBM, Compaq and HP offer them, but being that they are IBM, Compaq, and HP they are more expensive than off-brand choices. Some options: http://www.xicomputer.com/products/mtoweramd.asp http://www.aslab.com/ http://www.affordablecomputers.com/custombuilds/aci_linthun http://www.dell.com/us/en/bsd/products/minicat_precn_340l.htm (Dell still offers linux on business desktops) http://www.pogolinux.com/cgi-bin/altura/home/emptyquote.cgi http://www.linuxmall.com/
Expect to pay about $700-$1100 for a solid pre-installed system. Another route would be to talk to people who've bought off-the-shelf systems and installed linux successfully on them. I've had no trouble with IBM Aptiva, Dell Precision, or the Gateway E series desktops.
